BACKGROUND TO THE FIRM THEON SMITH ATTORNEYS IS A LEADING FIRM IN HERMANUS AND ITS SUCCESS HAS BEEN BUILT ON A SOLID FOUNDATION OF ASSIGNMENTS Theon Douglas Smith graduated from Stellenbosch and the University of Cape Town (UCT) with BA and LLB degrees and thereafter obtained postgraduate degrees in both Income Tax and Company Law from UCT. Theon commenced practice for his own account under the name and style Theon and Associates in February 1993. He has undertaken numerous challenging assignments that has seen the practice grow in stature and recognition over the past few years: - Oudekraal - Numerous liquidation matters - Administrative law issues for SAPPI - Consultant to Pannel Kerr Foster in formation of Mauritius Offshore Business Association (MOBA) - Representing successful Black Empowerment Companies. Theon has built up a specialist knowledge in Company Law, Tax, Property, Foreign Exchange and Trust Laws, in addition to a High Court litigation practice. Furthermore, he has built up a strong commercial and overseas investor client base. OUR TALENT POOL Ryan Gerrard Mackie graduated from Unisa in 2003 with a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) He served articles under and commenced practising with a firm specialising in Intellectual Property Law in Cape Town. Ryan specialises in the fields of Trade Mark Law, Copyright Law, The Law of Designs and aspects of Patent Law. He also has experience in drafting various contracts relating to the above fields of law, including franchise and licence agreements, deeds of assignment, and IT related agreements. Ryan is also an admitted conveyancer of the High Court of South Africa and is charged with overseeing all conveyancing work that is generated by the practice.
